Will you have enough?

Pensions, tax, State Pension ages. It can all feel like it was written for somebody else. It doesn't have to be. And whatever your age, it's not too late to find out where you stand. giltedge does the maths and explains it as it goes.

What is giltedge?

A sat nav
for your money.

giltedge is an app for your phone, tablet or computer. You tell it where your money is today, and it shows you where you're heading, when you'll get there, and what would change the route.

Step 1

You add what you've got

  • Your pensions, including old ones from past jobs
  • Your savings and any ISAs
  • Your home, and anything you owe
  • Roughly what you earn and spend
Step 2

giltedge does the maths

  • Grows each pot forward, month by month
  • Adds your State Pension when it starts
  • Works out the tax for you
  • Updates the moment anything changes
Step 3

You get three answers

  • When you could stop work
  • How much you could spend each month
  • How long your money would last

Where do I start?

Three things to find.
We'll do the rest.

You don't need exact figures. Rough numbers are fine to start, and you can tidy them up as you go.

01

Your pensions

If you've worked for an employer in the last ten years or so, you've probably been paying into a workplace pension. Old letters or emails from pension companies are a good place to look.

What you spend

A rough monthly figure is fine: your bills, plus what you spend on everything else. giltedge helps you split the must-haves from the nice-to-haves.

The big question

How long would
your money last?

Slide to roughly what you've got in pensions and savings, and what you'd like to spend each month once you stop at 66. The State Pension is included from 67.

This is a rough guide. giltedge works it out properly, with your real pensions, tax and your own State Pension forecast.

Your money could last until Age 86 Spend £200 a month less and it lasts to 94.

GeorgeAdd what you've found and I'll show you your real answer, and what would help it last longer.

Illustrative only. Stopping work at 66, with a £12,000 State Pension from 67. Assumes 4% annual growth, with spending and the State Pension both rising 2.5% a year. Ignores tax and fees.

The words, explained

Pension jargon,
in plain English.

You'll come across these in giltedge. Here's what they mean, and if anything else is unclear, just ask George.

Workplace pension

A pension your employer set up for you. Money goes in from your pay, your employer adds to it, and it's invested so it can grow until you need it.

Personal pension

A pension you set up yourself rather than through work. You might hear it called a SIPP, which is one type.

State Pension

A regular payment from the government once you reach State Pension age, which is 66 to 68 depending on when you were born. How much you get depends on your National Insurance record.

Drawdown

Taking money out of your pension bit by bit once you stop work, while the rest stays invested and can keep growing.

giltedge is a financial planning and forecasting tool. giltedge and George do not provide regulated financial advice and do not recommend specific investments, pensions or other financial products. Projections are estimates, not guarantees, based on the information you enter, current tax rules and the growth assumptions shown in the app. Tax rules, pension access ages, State Pension amounts and State Pension age can change. Investments can go down as well as up, and your actual results may differ. People, figures and dates shown on this page are illustrative examples. Consider speaking to a regulated financial adviser before making investment or retirement decisions.
